Work Share Program Offers Potential Solution to Permanent Layoffs

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching impact on many, if not most, of our region’s businesses.  For some, the impact to sales is profound. To avoid layoffs, if possible, several companies are implementing the state’s Work Share program with the help of Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! Michigan’s Work Share program allows employers to restart their business and bring employees back from unemployment with reduced hours — while employees collect partial unemployment benefits to make up a portion of the lost wages. Employers can also retain their current workforce and are given the flexibility to choose which of their employees are part of a Work Share plan. If your business is interested in learning more, reach out to your business services representative or contact Kristen Wenzel at kristenw@michiganworks.com.
