Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! Brings $2 Million in Training Dollars to Region’s Employers

LANSING, MI – Business services representatives from Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! have been busy this year, helping the region’s employers navigate a fiercely competitive statewide Going PRO Talent Fund award application process. These limited training dollars from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity are designed to help employers throughout the state upskill, develop and retain current and newly hired employees.

Late last week, Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! talent experts learned their efforts paid off. Seventeen employers from Saginaw, Bay, Midland, Gratiot and Isabella counties were awarded $848,372 for the second of two application and award cycles this year. When combined with the 24 employers awarded $1,063,709 from earlier this year, the total comes to $1,912,081 for the region.

“Our team has worked really hard to guide employers in drafting solid training plans leading to high-scoring applications,” explains Kristen Wenzel, the acting CEO for Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works. “Employer success drives us. We are committed to bringing much-needed training dollars to our area to keep employers highly competitive in their markets.”

Training funded by the Going PRO Talent Fund must be short-term and fill a demonstrated talent need experienced by the employer. Training must lead to a credential for a skill that is transferable and recognized by industry.
