Workforce Training

In the last few years, we’ve helped local employers build a more competitive workforce by providing funding to train thousands of area residents for success in high-demand industries like health care, manufacturing, construction, information technology and business services. 

Going Pro Talent Training Funds

Last year, Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! helped 50 employers obtain competitive grants totally more than $2.1 million to train 2,000 employees. Previously called Skilled Trades Training Fund — now called the Going Pro Talent Fund — these funds are part of a state program that employers can access only through Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! and a proprietary orientation and application process. Eligible training may include blueprint reading, CNC certification, financial accounting, IT certification, process improvement and quality management systems, leadership or management training among others.

Information sessions to learn about these funds usually begin in October, with employers working one-on-one with their BST rep to apply.

Fast Start Accelerated Training

For several years now, Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! and Delta College have operated the Fast Start program to meet employer demand for skilled workers on a “just in time” basis. In those years, our partnership has received national acclaim and job placement rates approach 90%.
